How to Build Reliable Laser Material Settings
Short answer: Build laser settings with a controlled test matrix on the exact machine and material batch. Record machine, lens, focus, speed, power, frequency or interval, passes, air assist, exhaust, result, and date. Vendor presets are starting points—not guaranteed production settings.
Safety comes before settings
Follow the machine and material manufacturers' instructions, supervise the machine, maintain ventilation and fire controls, and never process an unidentified material. Some materials release corrosive or toxic gases. A settings chart cannot establish material safety.
Change one variable at a time
Start from a manufacturer-approved range, then use a small grid to compare speed and power while holding focus, passes, and air assist constant. Repeat the best candidates and inspect both faces, edge quality, depth, discoloration, residue, and dimensional accuracy.
Record the full production context
A percentage power value is not portable between lasers with different sources, wattage, optics, firmware, maintenance, or calibration. Save settings with the machine identity and material supplier, product name, thickness, color, and lot when available.
